Fabrics and quality

Good second-hand clothing is about more than looks.

THRIFT. pays extra attention to natural fabrics because they often feel better on the skin and last longer. At the same time, the approach stays practical: condition, comfort, and overall feel matter too.

What we look for first

cotton, linen, wool

Our approach

Practical and straightforward—clear criteria, without preaching.

What we check

Condition, fabric, shape, and overall feel.

What that means

Clean, wearable clothes at accessible prices.

Why fabric matters

The material often tells you more than the label.

In a second-hand shop you can find great pieces at fair prices, but fabric still shapes a lot: how long something lasts, how it feels, and how often you reach for it.

Cotton, linen, and wool are often more pleasant on the skin, hold their shape better, and age more gracefully than cheaper synthetic fabrics.

That is why we look for these materials first. You can often feel the difference as soon as you try something on.

Cotton

Comfortable for everyday wear, breathable, and usually easy to care for.

Linen

Light, comfortable, and especially good in warmer weather.

Wool

Warm, durable, and especially good for seasonal layers.

How we think about synthetics

Synthetics have a place in the shop. If a piece is in good condition, looks good, and is comfortable to wear, it can still be a good choice.

We aim to judge what is genuinely good quality, comfortable, and good-looking.

How we assess a piece

  • We look at fabric feel and overall quality.
  • We check whether the shape and condition are still good enough for real everyday use.
  • We ask whether the piece is something a person would genuinely want to wear.
  • Before it reaches the shop floor, it is prepared and cleaned.

What this means for shoppers

Less guesswork, more confidence in what you are buying.

When fabric and condition are already considered, second-hand shopping gets simpler. You can find something that looks good and still feel confident it is a truly good, sustainable choice.
